Different Types of Slip Resistance Floor Tests
Slippery floors can cause serious injuries to our body. Slipperiness can be measured in terms of coefficient of friction. Slip resistant floor tiles have a coefficient of friction equal to 0.60 or more to meet the ADA or OSHA standards. There are various tests to measure the slipperiness of the slip resistant floor tiles which are:
The Ramp Test:
The Pendulum Test:
In the pendulum test a pendulum is made to swing over the floor and recorded by a machine with a pointer. The more slippery the floor is the pointer reads to zero and the less slippery it is, the pointer gives a higher value.
V Ratings:
A new technology called Nanoker is useful for production of slip resistant
tiles.
There are several floor
coatings for floor restoration treatment in the market which can make the floor slip resistant by increasing
the coefficient of friction. They are generally available in aerosol spray
forms and can be sprayed on any surface. Rust Oleum is an example of such
spray.

Slip Resistant Flooring Solutions for Workplaces
While considering choosing the right flooring for the workplace there are two types of considerations are to make. One is to avoid the slipping and the other is to keep in mind the weather in the winters while it is snowing around or raining.
The concrete floors are
popular to use with the mats fixed on the floors. The heavier mats are better
so they do not roll and make tripping accidents.
The other slip
resistance flooring solution is to apply anti-slip treatment to the floors. The
anti-slip treatment consists of making the floors safe to tread on without
slipping.
Slip test is done to determine
the safety of the floor in the workplace. The slip test is performed in dry
conditions of the floors as well as the when the floor is wet. It is the slip
test that finalizes what kind of treatment the workplace floor needs. Every
floor needs a customized anti-slip treatment. There is not one treatment
for all. Wood and tile floors need different floor safety testing and anti-slip
treatment.
Usually the pendulum
slip test is used for the floor safety testing. The polished floors like wood
and tiles lose their slip resistance when polished. Therefore, floor safety
testing should be done to keep the employees and the visitors safe at
workplace.
Anti-slip service and
pendulum test should be done to keep the workplace safe during the winters when
it is snowing around and mats are not the ultimate solution.
