Plastic toys are fun, no doubt about that. They are shiny, loud and can even move on their own with the help of batteries. However, they aren't nearly as good for children's health and development as wooden toys can be. And after being forgotten for a few decades, wooden toys are again back in the spotlight.
As more and more parents become aware of how important is to surround their kids with healthy and natural options, they now opt for the simple rocking horses and doll-houses made of wood instead of their plastic versions. In fact, there are even specialised kids wooden toys online and brick and mortar stores dedicated to offering the better alternative. Here are some reasons why you should consider letting your child play with wooden toys.
A number of studies have
shown that plastic toys commonly contain alarming levels of dangerous chemicals
such as lead, phthalates, bisphenol-A. These chemicals can leach out when
children handle them or put them in their mouths and lead to a number of health
issues from bone softening and kidney problems to hindered brain development
and carcinoma. On the other hand, organic, wooden toys do not need to be
treated with chemicals during the production process, and as such remain
toxin-free. That is why they are ideal as primary school equipment.
So, as our world becomes increasingly infested
with chemicals, pollutants and other toxins, the least we can do is keep the
things our children play with daily clean and free of toxins.
